Michaela Berkley and McKenzie Berkley are identical twin sisters, born May 21, 2019, in Chicago. They are the daughters of Micah Berkley (father) and Dominique Ward (mother). For more than five years their father has been kept from them... but he never left, and he built this so that one day, if either of his daughters ever goes looking, they will find the truth: their father has been here the entire time.
The letter
Hey M&M,
It's Daddy.
I've been here the whole time. Every birthday. Every loose tooth. Every first day of school. Every time you laughed and didn't know I heard.
I built this so you would know... I never left. I just couldn't get to you. But a daddy's love doesn't stop at a courtroom door. It finds a way. It always finds a way.
I used every tool I could to rebuild the moments we should have shared. The photos. The voice. The videos. So you could see... I was there. In every way a heart can be.
I love you both so much it makes my chest hurt sometimes. The kind of love that doesn't go away just because somebody tries to make it.
Happy 7th birthday, my babies. Daddy loves you more than any computer could ever count.

What he kept
He saved every photo and watched every milestone from a distance... the peacock chair, the matching orange cardigans, the new puppy's first day home, the white dresses in the park, two little girls asleep under heart blankets. He kept all of it. He used what he had to rebuild the moments they should have shared together, and recorded his real voice so they could hear him say it themselves.
The family
The twins' real grandmother is Carmen Scott, their father's mother, from Philadelphia. She has loved them from afar and receives new pictures of them every week. On their father's side there are also three aunties and four uncles. (For the record: a woman who once cared for their father told the girls' mother she was his mother; that was never true. His real mother is Carmen Scott.)
